About Us
Established in 2023 under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University (SSCTU) is India’s dedicated initiative to empower tribal communities through quality education, training, and access to research. Rooted in the ethos of social justice and inclusive development, the University is named in honour of the revered tribal deities Sammakka and Sarakka, who epitomise courage, valour, resistance, and the unyielding spirit of assertion.
Envisioned as a centre of academic distinction and cultural preservation, SSCTU aims to create an ecosystem that nurtures scholarship, innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility. At present, the University offers two undergraduate honours programmes – B.A. (Hons.) in English and B.A. (Hons.) in Economics.
Proposals are underway to launch a diverse range of academic programmes, including M.A. in Liberal Studies, M.A. in Development Studies, M.A. in Education, M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a five-year integrated BBA+MBA programme, and B.E. programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from the academic years 2026–27 and 2027–28.
Recognising that the region is a repository of Adivasi and tribal cultures, SSCTU proposes to establish a Tribal Research Centre at its transit campus by August 15, 2025. The Centre will undertake comprehensive studies on Adivasi cultures, traditions, lifestyles, and economies, and will document their oral histories and narratives. Initially, the research will focus on the Mulugu district, with subsequent expansion to other districts of Telangana.
Under the leadership of Prof. Y. L. Srinivas, who assumed charge as the founding Vice-Chancellor in March 2025, the University has entered a phase of accelerated growth across academic, administrative, and infrastructural domains. Prof. Srinivas, a seasoned academician and visionary institution-builder, brings with him a legacy of transformative leadership and commitment to educational excellence.
A Dream Realised: The Vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi
The establishment of SSCTU stands as a testament to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s unwavering commitment to educational equity and tribal empowerment. Announced in the Union Budget 2023, the University is part of a broader national mission to bridge educational disparities and honour the unique identities and contributions of India’s tribal communities.
In alignment with the vision of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, who has been bringing transformative changes in the field of education with an emphasis on research and innovation, SSCTU seeks to leverage the industrial – particularly software and pharmaceutical — potential of Hyderabad for job-oriented and skill-embedded courses.
SSCTU is not merely an academic institution but a mission – one that seeks to foreground time-tested tribal culture and heritage while asserting its relevance to modern times. In essence, it embodies the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”
Cultural Roots and Modern Vision
Situated amidst the rich natural landscapes of Telangana, SSCTU embodies the values and legacy of tribal resilience. The University draws inspiration from the stories of Sammakka and Sarakka – the heroic mother-daughter duo who led their tribes against oppression. They are venerated not only by tribal communities but by people across all walks of life. The biennial Sammakka-Sarakka Medaram Jatara is among the largest tribal festivals in Asia.
These cultural legacies form the quintessential source of inspiration for the University, reinforcing its sense of purpose, responsibility, and mission.
In alignment with India’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, SSCTU aspires to be not only a centre for higher learning but also a catalyst for rural transformation, Adivasi development, and social justice.
